Modern Orthodoxy
I enjoyed Mrs. Krause's speech a lot. There were some statements that I did agree with, though there were some that i also did not entirely agree with. For instance, I agree that Modern Orthodoxy can be dangerous if we only involve ourselves in the secular world, but there are also many great things about Modern Orthodoxy, and integrating the secular world into our religious lives. The metaphor of driving on the icy road did affect me, but there was part of the metaphor that I felt was not true to Modern Orthodoxy. I believe that we brought this up in our class during one of our discussion, that the icy road was a good metaphor because it conveyed the danger, and that if we veer too much then a lot of harm can happen, but it did not convey that there are good things that can also come about from Modern Orthodoxy. The icy road in the metaphor did not lead to a great place, but that is what Modern Orthodoxy is about, and that is why we practice Modern Orthodoxy, because we feel that a lot of good can come from integrating the secular world into our Torah lives, and even that it can enhance our Judaic lives. I do believe that we must be careful with Modern Orthodoxy, and that we should not be open to everything in the secular world, but I do feel that there are many positive aspects and advantages that Modern Orthodoxy enables us to experience. I liked the speech a lot.
