Mrs. Krause's speech definitely got me thinking about Modern Orthodoxy and what we as a community believe in as well as my own beliefs. It is always interesting to hear how someone outside of our community thinks about our community, and her thoughts make a lot of sense. I like that we are supposed to use secular society to our advantage to enhance our lives, etc, but I do agree that sometimes the media is too much a part of our lives (mine included), not that I know what to do about it. It was funny that Mrs. Krause realized that she herself is Modern Orthodox, because she does embody the values that we ourselves are supposed to have. She is open minded and does not totally shut out the secular world, or our own world which is also very different from hers. She acknowledged that both the Chareidi way of life and the way we live are valid paths, but that maybe Modern Orthodoxy isn't what it was originally intended to be and I agree that there is room for improvement.
